Class 8He is delighted to announce that they are the secondary level video award winners of the Classroom Energy Diet Challenge! This annual contest is open to teachers of all grade levels across Canada. Participants register in advance and classes complete a series of challenges focused around energy literacy. In 8He, we took time during Life Skills and Current Events to perform many creative and hands-on challenges. A particular focus of our challenges was eating for a healthy planet and our $1500 award will be used towards planting herbs in our school courtyard.

Winning the secondary level video prize was a wonderful boost in a time when morale is low! Part of the funds awarded are allocated for class celebration.  Since a class party isn't an option, I wrote a congratulations message for my kiddos and SMS mailed a small Tim Horton's card so each student could feel included and acknowledged in a celebratory way!

In addition, I am humbled and delighted to have been selected Shell Canada Energy Educator of the Year. Being able to help our students become energy-literate citizens is a passion of mine. In Alberta, we are very aware that choosing the right forms of energy and using our resources wisely are key to our future health and prosperity. My grade 8s embraced these challenges with willing spirit and drive and I could not be more proud of them!
